Getting your system ready for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
Dear Kingdom Come: Deliverance fans,
We’re delighted to be able to confirm the minimum and recommended specs your PC will need in order to play Kingdom Come: Deliverance II when the game launches on 4th February 2025.
These are the specs you’ll need to target as part of your launch day preparations:
We know that this is all the information the majority of our PC players will need to start getting ready. You already know how to strike the right balance between all these components, how to find the best upgrades for the precise experience you want to target and get everything ready to go!
What if you’re not an expert when it comes to the inner workings of a gaming PC though, and you need a little extra help getting started?
We know that it’s not always obvious why we set these sorts of requirements for newer games, so we’ve put together an explainer that should help even the greenest of squires get ready for launch.
We’ll show you how to find out what you currently have installed in your gaming PC and explain why each component matters for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. If you need more help after that, we’ve included a few useful online resources you can start exploring.
Checking your specs
Now that you know the specs you need to target for a great experience, how can you check if your gaming PC is up to the task?
Fortunately, there’s a very easy way of getting a quick snapshot of what’s under the hood of your Windows PC. Just follow these steps to get started:
- Find the search box in your Windows taskbar, which is located by default at the bottom of your screen. If you’ve set the taskbar to hide automatically, you’ll need to hover your mouse over this area to make it appear.
- Type “dxdiag” (without quotation marks) into this search bar and hit Enter, or click on the program shortcut that appears in search results. This will load the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
- Wait for the DirectX Diagnostic Tool to finish loading all of your system information. The green loading bar at the bottom of the window will disappear once it’s finished.
The first tab titled ‘System’ contains most of the information you’ll need.
- Operating System: The version of Windows you currently have installed.
- Processor: The make and model of the CPU that’s installed in your machine.
- Memory: The amount of RAM you have installed, displayed in MB. The leading digit can be used to identify how many GB of RAM you have. For example, 8,192MB of RAM can be simplified as 8GB for the purposes of comparing what you have with the minimum and recommended specs.
- Graphics card / GPU: In order to find out which graphics card (or GPU) you have installed, select the next tab along at the top of the screen which is titled Display 1.
(Tip: If you ever need to share this report with a more technically-minded friend, just click Save All Information at the bottom of the window. This will create a .txt file of all the info that you can send to them.)
Now you know what’s installed in your system right now, why might you need to upgrade to meet at least the minimum requirements for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II?
In the next section, we’ll explain how the four main components of your gaming PC work together to deliver a seamless, immersive experience.
CPU
Your CPU (or Central Processing Unit) is effectively your computer’s brain, processing information while also ensuring everything else in your system works together in harmony.
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance II your CPU is managing all of the game’s moving parts - character animations, enemy reactions, combat physics and so on. In a game as complex as this, there are hundreds of such elements being calculated at any given time.
Although your graphics card is responsible for conjuring up everything you see on your monitor, the CPU’s job is to make sure the card gets all the instructions it needs to draw what’s required in the current moment. If the CPU isn’t powerful enough to do this, it can seriously hold back even an amazing graphics card and cause the game to lag or stutter.
And of course, the CPU is also in charge of everything else that’s going on in the background, not just Kingdom Come: Deliverance II! A rock-solid CPU ensures all the other programs you’re running on your PC keep ticking over, and without slowing down the game.
RAM
RAM - or Random Access Memory - is best thought of as your gaming PC’s short-term memory. It helps your computer quickly access the information it needs to keep your game running right now. For Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, having enough RAM is vital when it comes to smooth gameplay.
While you’re playing the game, critical items such as the map, character models and other textures are loaded into RAM so your computer can access them the moment they’re needed. There’s an awful lot of stuff going on at any given time in a game like ours (not to mention everything else running on your PC), so having more RAM can make a big difference.
What happens if you don’t have enough RAM? The game will try to pull information directly from your main storage, but this is much slower and will likely lead to lag, stuttering or just very long loading times.
Graphics card / GPU
Your GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is responsible for drawing everything you see in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, from the detailed character models to the sweeping landscapes of medieval Bohemia.
It also plays a vital role in making the game as immersive as possible, whether that’s through the shadows cast by objects, or the beautiful lighting effects you’ll experience as day and night transition into one another.
The higher the resolution you target and the faster the frame rate you want to achieve, the more demands will be placed on your GPU. If you try to give it more work than it can handle, the game will stutter.
You’ll also need to balance both of these things with advanced settings like realistic reflections and detailed foliage. In short, the more powerful your graphics card, the more of these advanced options you’ll be able to take advantage of at a higher resolution and a faster frame rate.
Storage
For a massive open world RPG like Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, having the right type - and quantity - of storage is essential if you want to achieve fast loading times and a smooth gameplay experience.
Every single game file including the terrain maps, character models, textures and voice files are stored on your PC during installation. Whenever you start the game up or move to a new area, we need to pull all that data from your storage. The faster your drive, the shorter the loading times you’ll experience, and the fewer interruptions you’ll encounter.
While an HDD (Hard Disk Drive) can be cheaper than an SSD (Solid State Drive), it’s also much slower. Loading screens will last longer as a result, and the game may also stutter when it comes to loading in new areas of the game world.
SSDs, on the other hand, are significantly faster. That means shorter loading times for you, and a seamless gaming experience. NVMe SSDs are even faster than regular SSDs, and are particularly useful for an open world game like ours - if your budget can accommodate one, of course.
